The Purpose of Your Calling:
Through your ward outlined Scouting Program, help the assigned young men in your ward, ages 8 to 10, to build desirable qualities of character, learn leadership skills, be aware of the responsibilities of citizenship, develop personal fitness, and help these young men honor their priesthood.To support the mission of the local BSA Council: It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to instill values in young people, and other ways to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based on the Scout Oath and Law. The aims of Scouting are to develop in youth (1) a strong ethical character, (2) an active, participating citizenship, including leadership ability, and (3) personal fitness: physical, mental, emotional and moral.


Guidelines of Your Stewardship:

  1. Register with the Boy Scouts of America and wear a full Scout uniform
  2. All Cub Scouts include: Wolf, age 8; Bear, age 9; Webelos, age 10.
  3. Take online training modules:
  4. Get to know and become closely aware of all Cub Scouts in your ward.
  5. Wear a full Scout Leader's uniform. .
  6. Conduct a proper monthly Pack meeting.
  7. Train Den Chiefs to work with Den Leaders
  8. Supervise a working advancement program with the goal being the rank advancements and Arrow of Light.
  9. With the boys develop a tentative troop activities plan for the entire year; then plan and carry out a definite calendar for at least three months in advance.
  10. Implement the outlined Scouting program.
  11. Read and follow the manuals fully.
  12. Maintain the standards of a chartered organization and BSA.
  13. Correlate activities for achievement of Arrow of Light requirements.
  14. Continuously train Cub Scouts to receive a Quality Award program and to wear the full uniform..
  15. Secure adult assistance and resources as needed through your adult/parent Committee..
  16. Become proficient at being a good leader developer, through study, awareness and application.
  17. Through the adult Troop Committee, provide trip permits for all outside the ward activities involving travel.
  18. Encourage parent involvement.
  19. Encourage Boys Life subscription cominginto the home
  20. BSA Council and District activities.
  21. Maintain two-deep leadership in all activities
  22. Report regularly to the Primary President.
  23. Rule One: Make it fun!



Qualifications You Should Develop
1. Ability to work closely with cub scouts and develop initial responsible delegation
2. Ability to organize time effectively.
3. Ability to develop leadership and team spirit and follow the Cub Scout Program as outlined.
4. A testimony and good relationship with the Lord


Meetings/Activities to attend
1. Weekly Cub Scout meetings, and a monthly planning meeting.
2. Monthly Pack meeting.
3. District Round Table each month at                                                                .

5. General church meetings.


Average amount of time spent in your calling per week: 4-6 hours


Handbooks or supplemental materials available:
Scouting Handbook (LDS), Cub Scout Handbooks: Big Bear Cub Scout Book, BSA Family Book, Cub Scout Fun Book, Cub Scout leader How-To Book, Webelos Den Activities, Webelos Scout Book, Staging Den and Pack Ceremonies. These materials should be turned over to your successor or Bishop.
